Whoogle availability
Whoogle previously provided a privacy-focused web interface for Google search. Its upstream project is archived and its maintainers report that search no longer works reliably. Moltern therefore prevents new Whoogle installations instead of presenting a deploy button for a service that cannot complete its main customer workflow.
Do not plan a new workload around Whoogle. Choose SearXNG for a maintained, privacy-respecting metasearch service.
Use SearXNG instead
SearXNG combines results from multiple public search providers and has passed a Moltern production product test. The validation covered deployment through the UI, a live search with visible result cards, fixed-capacity metering, runtime replacement and protected cleanup.
- Open Services in Moltern.
- Search for SearXNG.
- Choose the target environment and starting capacity.
- Review the deploy preview and confirm the installation.
- Wait for Running, then open the generated HTTPS URL.
- Submit a controlled query and confirm that result cards are returned.

SearXNG needs outbound access to public search providers. Moltern permits that public web traffic while private workspace and platform addresses remain outside the search service's network path.
Existing Whoogle data
The former catalog profile did not provide a supported migration path for server-side Whoogle configuration. Before removing an existing instance:
- Record any browser-side preferences that still matter.
- Deploy and validate SearXNG in the same Moltern environment.
- Recreate the required search preferences in SearXNG.
- Update bookmarks or integrations to the new generated URL.
- Delete the Whoogle service after the replacement has been accepted.
Do not copy old Whoogle cookies or internal configuration into SearXNG. The two projects use different settings and provider behavior.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Whoogle still have a documentation page?
Existing users and old links need an explicit migration answer. Keeping this page also prevents an unavailable catalog entry from looking like a temporary Moltern deployment failure.
Can support enable Whoogle for one workspace?
No. The catalog entry is disabled because the upstream product cannot be certified for its primary search workflow. Increasing capacity or changing the environment does not correct that upstream condition.
Is SearXNG an authenticated private gateway?
No. The current SearXNG catalog profile has a public HTTPS interface and no built-in Moltern access layer. Do not submit confidential queries unless your organisation has added an approved access control in front of it.
